Grupa Harijs is an artrock and progrock band consisting of 8 members from Latvia, a small, idillic and relatively warm country. Originally consisting of 4 multi-instrumentalists, the band members have grown not only in number but in style, which is quite evident once you compare their sophomore album, Alku Dunu Troksnis, to their debut, Zēns.
The group has quickly gained a loyal following in their hometown and many more fans around the country have joined in the shindig at their live concerts. Grupa Harijs have shared the stage with other Latvian and Lithuanian indie bands, such as JUUK, Shi Shi and Stūrī Zēvele.
Their influences range from 70s hard rock, like Led Zeppelin and Blue Oyster Cult, to jazz legends like Miles Davis and Bill Evans and even more modern guitar heroes such as King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
The band have now produced their second album Alku Dunu Troksnis. What can you expect? Well, in comparison to their first album, they have added a drummer (Salvis Mass) to their ranks …so that’s cool. Also extending the line-up is a saxophone player (Katrīne Sabīne Kalniņa). This has allowed Grupa Harijs to experiment with progrock time changes, brass solos, as well as opening up possibilities for more guitar and synth heavy riff writing. But all-throughout the band have tried to remain fun, in both music and in person.
